Mother’s Day is right around the corner and it’s such a special day to honor the moms or mother figures in our lives! Recently, I was thinking back to my very first Mother’s Day as a new mom, having only given birth to Benjamin about 5 days before. With emotions running high and sleep running low, I remember not feeling all that great that day. We couldn’t go out, which was fine with me since I was feeling really awful and Benjamin was so tiny! My baby blues had started kicking in, and I just remember being weepy. My sweet husband was determined to make my first Mother’s Day special, and went out and bought me a new Longchamp bag, a few other small gifts and a card “from” Benjamin. When I read the words in the sweet card, I cried my eyes out with gratitude. As silly as it seems, it really hit me for the first time that I was a mother. It was such a new feeling, considering the past few days had been a whirlwind. Mother’s Day really took on a deeper meaning for me than I had ever realized it could.
Fast forward to almost seven years later, Mother’s Day is a day that I look forward to so much! Not for the gifts or cards, but because my kid’s love celebrating the day! This year, we are going to have a late brunch somewhere local with my own Mother! I don’t ever really set expectations for the day, because as any mom knows, nothing ever goes as planned and there’s no such thing as a perfect day. But any day where you get a “thank you” for all of the selfless mom things you do is a perfect day in my book.
