I can hardly believe it, but summer is right around the corner! I am so excited for warm weather and lots of outdoor activities. Benjamin is not going to a full time camp, but instead he we will be continuing with swim team for much of the summer, with two one-week long camps for golf and basketball mixed in! Ben loves sports, so he is looking forward to this so much! Olivia will be attending her school’s camp, and I am so thrilled she will be able to stay in her school environment for much of the summer. We are hoping to do some fun things with the kids on the weekends too, like finally taking them back to the zoo and maybe a road trip here and there.

Even though this is our second week of swim team, I am amazing by Benjamin’s commitment. He is really trying his best and having fun as well. Though his team is made up of kids ages 7-9 of various skill levels, he is not intimidated at all. He is confident and determined, and it makes me so proud as a mom! I can’t wait to see how much stronger of a swimmer he becomes by the end of the summer.
We also have a neighborhood pool in our development, as most do here in our suburb of Atlanta, so I want to make sure he is very comfortable around the water. It’s so important since so much revolves around water here! It will be nice that he can practice in a pool larger than the one in our backyard all summer long!
One thing that took some getting used to when I moved from New York was that schools in the South are over by the end of May. Going back to school in August also felt strange, but now I couldn’t love it more! The end of May is such a beautiful time here in Georgia, and it’s great that we can dive head first into all the fun summer activities as early as possible.
Since we will be poolside for much of the summer, I am sharing a few of my pool essentials for myself and the kids.
- Striped pool towels – We love these pool towels because they come in a bunch of fun colors, and they are the perfect size for kids. They wash very well for their price point too!
- Oversized tote – My love for Scout is enormous, and I was on the hunt for a pool bag that was expansive but also lightweight. This bag truly fits all of my essentials without feeling like an overwhelming carry. Scout bags come in a variety of pattern and color options, and you can’t go wrong with any of them!
- Sunglasses – Heading to the pool with expensive sunglasses is a big no with kids. These Amazon sunnies are ones I have shared before, but they are such a good quality and the tortoise shell is very expensive looking.
- Water bottle – I have been loving my new water bottle! I got this one for Mother’s Day, and it’s the perfect size. I love bringing reusable bottles to the pool because they stay nice and cold!
- Goggles – These goggles are my kid’s favorites, and they are a summer staple for us!
- Kids Cover Ups – I love these striped cover ups! They can even be monogrammed! I love to put my kids, especially Olivia, in long sleeved bathing suits for sun protection. That’s why I always look for long-sleeved cover ups which can be hard to find!
- Sandals – These were the best Target finds of the summer! Olivia’s come in a pink sprinkle design, and they are easy for her to take on and off. Benjamin loves them too!
- Lunch Tote – Sometimes we bring snacks to the pool, and I love Scout’s lunch tote for this purpose. It matches the larger bag, and it keeps everything nice and organized.
- Sunscreen – Last, but certainly not least, is sunscreen! This one from Supergoop is a recent try and I will let you know how we like it with a few more uses!
